This is the IJEBU ODE POST OFFICE 📮**ESTABLISHED: 1898** by the British Post Office**THE HISTORY:**Built just 6 years after the *Ijebu-British War of 1892*.After the British defeated the Ijebu army and annexed the kingdom into the Colony and Protectorate of Lagos and Southern Nigeria, they needed communication lines.In 1898, regional post offices were set up in strategic hubs: *Ijebu-Ode, Ibadan, Abeokuta, Epe, Ikorodu, and Badagry*.This building was how government messages, trade letters, and money orders moved between Ijebu and the world.Before phones, before email - news came here by runners, boats, and later, trucks.**FROM THEN TO NOW:**1898: Letters from abroad. Birth certificates. WAEC results. Money orders.2026: NIPOST services, parcels, and still "Meet me at Post Office"Peach walls, arched windows, brown roof.
